I AM ASSUMING IT WAS BUILT IN DECEMBER OF 1977 BUT LET ME SAY RIGHT OFF THE BAT THAT WHAT I KNOW ABOUT LOTUS CARS YOU COULD WRITE ON A POSTAGE STAMP. I AM A ROLLS ROYCE AND BENTLEY MAN AND KNOW THEM VERY WELL BUT THIS LOTUS IS JUST NOT MY FORTE. IF YOU ARE READING THIS THEN I AM CERTAIN YOU KNOW WAY MORE THAN I DO. WHAT I HAVE IS WHAT YOU SEE APART FROM SOME SMALL BITS IN A CARDBOARD BOX. I PUT LIGHT MACHINE OIL DOWN THE BORES AND LET IT SOAK FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS THEN PUT HER IN GEAR, GAVE HER A PUSH AND SHE TURNS OVER AS FREE AS A BIRD. THE SPARK PLUGS LOOKED GREAT. THE ENGINE OIL WAS AND IS SO CLEAN IT COULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN YESTERDAY, BUT IT WAS`NT ITS JUST AS IT WAS WHEN I GOT IT. THE CARBURETORS WORK AS SMOOTHLY AS YOU COULD WISH FOR. THE TRANSMISSION IS A 4 SPEED WITH OVERDRIVE. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS OXIDATION ON THE ALLOY ENGINE PARTS BUT THE COMPLETE LACK OF ROAD DIRT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT SHE VERY WELL MAY BE A 5,144 MILE CAR!!! I ALSO TOOK IN A LOTUS ELITE ON THE SAME TRADE DEAL WITH THIS ESPRIT FOR AN OLD BENTLEY I HAD AND I WILL PUT THE ELITE ON EBAY WITH A BUY IT NOW OF $1,000 (ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS) "AS IS WHERE IS" AND THE ELITE IS LOCATED IN MISSISSIPPI.......... HOPE I SPELT THAT RIGHT. THE DOORS ON THIS ESPRIT CLOSE WITH A GOOD SOLID CLUNK BUT THE FRONT TRUNK LID IS JUST SITTING IN PLACE AS ARE THE TWO HEADLIGHT PODS. THE WINDSHIELD IS CRACKED AND SIMPLY TAPED IN PLACE AS IS THE HEATED BACK GLASS, WHICH IS IN PERFECT CONDITION AS IS THE REAR HATCH ASSEMBLY. THERE IS A BREAK IN THE FIBRE GLASS WHERE THE REAR HATCH LOCK MECHANISM ATTACHES BUT I DO HAVE THE FIBRE GLASS PART AND THE LOCK MECHANISM AND RELEASE CABLE. ONE OF THE GAS TANKS IS SHOT. THE A/C IS ALL HOOKED UP AS IT LEFT THE FACTORY. THE BACKBONE CHASSIS LOOKS SURPRISINGLY GOOD WITH SURFACE RUST ON IT AND NO ROAD DIRT ACCUMULATION. AGAIN THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THE 5,144 MILES IS MOST LIKELY CORRECT. AND JUST LOOK AT THE SEATS, NO WEAR AT ALL!! I SEE NO EVIDENCE ANYWHERE OF ANY ACCIDENT DAMAGE, ALL FOUR CORNERS LOOK PERFECT, CHECK OUT THE CORNER PIX I TOOK. OH YEAH, I DO HAVE THE SPARE WHEEL, NEARLY FORGOT THAT.
