This 1977 Lotus Esprit was purchased by the seller in 1993 from the estate of its original owner. The car is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and is finished in white over a red and black interior. Modifications include S2 Turbo-style bodywork from Lotus Prepared by Claudius, 3-piece BBS basketweaves, Dell’Orto 45 carburetors, an electronic ignition, seat runner removal, and an aftermarket JVC stereo. A new ignition coil, fuel pump, and alternator were fitted and the clutch master cylinder was rebuilt in 2018. This Esprit S1 is offered with service records covering the seller’s ownership, a Lotus Certificate of Vehicle Provenance, a spare wheel, a workshop manual, and a clean Nevada title in the seller’s name.
This Esprit S1 features S2 Turbo-style body updates from Lotus Prepared by Claudius of Cerritos, California including a rear diffuser, revised bumper covers, a vented engine cover, a front air dam, and NACA ducts on the rocker panels. Originally delivered in yellow, the fiberglass body was refinished in white during previous ownership after the styling updates were completed, and was repainted again in 2015 in Jaguar white. Black Lotus graphics are affixed to the hood and quarter panels.
Black powder coated BBS 3-piece basketweave wheels are staggered 15″ up front and 16″ at the rear and mounted with Dunlop tires. The seller notes that the front splitter is wired for fog lights which are not currently installed.
The interior was reportedly refurbished in 2015 with new red leather upholstery, black suede seat inserts, and fresh carpets in the cabin and engine bay. The seller reports that the seat runners were removed and that the seats are bolted directly to the floor as far rearward as possible. The runners are included in the sale.
The original gauges have been replaced with factory-style units as well as a second Sunpro tachometer mounted in the replacement burl wood dashboard. Other additions include a radiator fan light, an aftermarket switch for raising and lowering the headlights, and a JVC stereo with a USB port. The 5-digit odometer shows 37k miles, about 36k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.
The naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Modifications consist of Dell’Orto 45 carburetors, an electronic ignition with rev limiter, and factory smog equipment removal. A decklid-mounted cooling fan as been added, and replacement flat-faced fans have been installed up front. Cylinder head refreshment was carried out by Lotus Prepared by Claudius in 2016, while service in 2018 reportedly included a new ignition coil, fuel pump, and alternator as well as a clutch master cylinder rebuild, carburetor service, and oil change.
The stock plywood engine bay floor has been replaced with corrugated aluminum. An oil leak is noted from the lower camshaft cover. Additional underbody photos are provided in the gallery below.

A rare 1978 Lotus replica kit car, 4-cyl engine with only 5,255 miles. Car runs good, transmission shifts. Interior looks good, exterior has a few small cosmetic dents. Very low reserve, so bid with confidence.
We have a clear California title.
