Notes:
1) Car year series and # if special edition
Lotus Esprit S1 1976 VIN No 76110223C
Is this the oldest you have seen?
2) Your location, city and state, country
I live in a town called Derby in Derbyshire in the north midlands (peak
district) which is in the UK.
3) Any modifications or nightmare repairs you have been through.
The car actually has an Esprit Turbo body on it, we believe the car was
used by Lotus as a test/development vehicle.
I have owned the car for 12 years and have had many nightmare repairs :-)
including spending all night changing a cross gate cable as i had a track session booked for the following day.
4) What you do with your car: Auto-X,Show, Cruise,Parkit and look at it.
Drive it to work in the summer, go on club runs and meets, very occasional
track days now the poor old girl's getting on a bit.
5) Mileage or wild ass guess.
Can't remember off the top off my head will have a look tonight and send
tommorrow.
6) Color: Exterior.Interior
exterior colour is red interior colour is Beige velour
7) Your Esprit expertise: what you are good at or have become
learned at.
nothing specific really just lots of experience on complete car.
I am a principal Automotive design engineer currently working on engines
previously worked on design of MK2 lotus elise and exige and on the M250
project, I am on the committee of the Lotus Drivers Club ( 3000+ members )
i have worked for formula 1 teams and for world rally teams.
9) Any parts cross ref. #s you may have
Loads of stuff and access to friends at Lotus and all our club members
which is a huge database.
just interested as to what you plan to do with all this data you are
collecting, are you planning a register of cars, if not i would be happy to
get involved and set one up on a web site or something to that effect, let
me know your plans, i have been planning an S1 / S2 register for a while
and i would rather pool our info than double up.

£25,000 (DEPOSIT TAKEN - so now sold subject to completion)
This is a very rare car and one of the earlier “gelcoat” models, a genuine RHD on chassis number 226G. I have put in a lot of time and money on this project, but I simply no longer have the time to complete it. So, with a sad heart, it needs to go to someone with more time.. and a garage. The car sits on a full set of 4 original wolfrace wheels, and comes with the spare wheel.
Work completed:
Carbs rebuilt (but a few years ago now).
2 new alloy petrol tanks, new fuel filter fitted, new front bumper fitted, uprated alloy radiator, high torque starter motor, new rear light lenses, upgraded exhaust manifold, new stainless exhaust, boot deck boards, new exterior door handles, front headlamp surrounds (headlamps are ready to fit and are with the car), new rear shocks and springs.
Pipework for engine bay fire extinguisher fitted, tank and other fitment parts included.
So that’s the progress so far. The engine does start up and settle down when warm. However, the cam belt was last changed in 2011, so you will probably want to do this. Also, I have replaced the Y fuel line twice with a new rebuilt braided line, but this has recently started leaking yet again so cannot show the car running - but it will with a new fuel line. I’ve started and run the car at regular intervals throughout my ownership.
The paintwork isn’t great close up, but could be salvaged/improved. Certainly good enough for getting it on the road, but if you want a top show car then you would probably be looking at getting a full respray. The interior is bad. The headlining is gone and the firewall panel needs recovering. The seats could clean up and be serviceable, but I had planned a full interior re-trim and I’m sure you would probably do likewise. The wiring is all original (with some cowboy additions at various times with previous owners - it works but would benefit from a total rewire. The tyres have lots of tread but it’s old rubber, one of them has now gone flat. Obviously, no brakes at the moment and cannot run the engine because of fuel line, so this car will need trailer and even maybe winch to recover it.
I also have the following new parts yet to fit: brake discs x 4, brake calipers x 4, front springs, front dampers, windscreen chrome, interior carpet set (red), rear boot carpet set, rear valance.
With asking prices rapidly climbing, even for S2 & S3 examples, this is a great opportunity to grab a S1.
Please don’t waste my time with silly offers. I’ve set the price based on what I’ve seen S1 project cars recently going for.
I’ll add a couple more photos of interior soon - it’s not pretty as it’s mostly removed, but it is complete - all the door cards, steering wheel, seats are all there
