Update (06/02/2023)

Hi,
I owned STX596S Lotus Esprit S1 from around 1986 to 1993, as featured on salvage hunters written about by John Redfern on your website.
Below are two pictures of the vehicle around the summer of 1987 on Cippenham village Green, Slough. It was outside my mum’s house where I lived at the time. I sold the car in 1993 as it had been kept in my garage in Twyford Reading for over 3 years and not moved. We used the money for the deposit on our new house in Wokingham. It’s brilliant to see that the car has been fully stripped down and restored.

Kind regards,
Colin George.

So here's the start of things. I bought this car of ebay 2 years ago and has been sat in the garage waiting for motivation and of course money.........
I'll probably be stated by the purists because it will be gelcoated white, but I want to try and keep things as authentic as possible as to how a white S1 should look. I'm not a fan of tartan, anyone know if any of the original white S1's had a black leather interior?

It look's like this has been recently sold as an unfinished project.

Update - 22-09-2021 Sold for £67,000 10-09-2021
Lotus Esprit from Salvage Hunters TV show up for auction

If you’re the winning bidder on this very orange 1976 Lotus Esprit, you could become an impromptu TV star. Restored for Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars, the rare Series 1 Esprit will soon be up for sale.
Whoever wins the Car & Classic online auction has the option to take ownership on screen. The car will be handed over by presenters Paul Cowland and Drew Pritchard.

Colorado Orange paintwork, matched with a green and red tartan interior, sounds suspiciously like the inside of Rod Stewart’s wardrobe. Yet the Esprit was one of 15 cars to leave the factory in this bold colour.
As part of the restoration, SMS Autospray returned the Esprit’s lightweight fibreglass bodywork to its original hue.
Steve Fulcher, of Fulcher Coachtrimmers, was tasked with ensuring the Esprit’s retro cabin packs the maximum 1970s punch. From the photos, it looks like a mission accomplished.

Matthew Oxley, a Lotus enthusiast and skilled mechanic, was the Esprit’s previous owner and sold the car to the show.
After handing over the Lotus in boxes of bits, Matthew was then brought back to help complete the work he had started. With an engine rebuild and suspension overhaul already completed, restoring the five-speed manual transmission was his next big task.
The mid-mounted 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine has covered less than 500 miles since the rebuild. However, Matthew has committed to helping the new owner resolve any issues that arise during the running-in period.

Finding an early Lotus Esprit is a difficult task at the best of times. The opportunity to buy one that has been expertly restored on TV is perhaps a unique proposition.
The auction for the Esprit will be held online, via the Car & Classic website. Bidding will open on 3 September, ending on 10 September at 5pm BST.
Now into its sixth series, Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars will return to the Quest TV channel early in 2022. The show will also be available through the Discovery+ on-demand service.

Scott’s Comments
DUE TO HIGH LEVELS OF INTEREST, THIS MAY WELL NOW BE SOLD.....
Registered in March 1977, Chassis 0169G left the production line in September 1976 and was despatched to Cathedral Garage, main Lotus agents in Bristol who sold and registered the car in March of 1977 to it's company director owner.
The car found itself in the hands of 11 owners, until the last owner bought the car in 2003. 80,000 miles and so many owners it was clear that the car really needed some work.....
Between 2003 and 2007 the car was completely stripped and meticulously rebuilt to it's original specification and colour combination. In fact it was the first of a synergy in Esprit restorations by SJ Sportscars and Nick Fulcher Coachtrimmers, the former working on every element of the cars mechanical makeup whilst the owner worked with Nick to find the original materials for the interior trim. With Nick running the trim shop at Hethel in the 1970's, he still had all templates and some material from the era - thus ensuring 100% accuracy in the interior detail. The restoration was four years hard labour, and the bills exceed £55,000.......
This period perfect S1 has covered 4500 miles since it's restoration, and is in with us having a full service, MOT and an extensive detail. It arrived in stunning order, but I just can't resist. We shall angle the exhaust correctly, and the GKN alloys are being removed for a light machine turn to restore to an original finish.
Expensive and laborious to restore properly - and with such a small number that actually exist, these are becoming very sought after indeed - I believe it's safe to assume that prices will continue to rise dramatically as the brand interest increases and the car pool decreases; it's inevitable.
A stunning timepiece.
