This 1977 Lotus Esprit-has been nicely restored by an enthusiast. The car looks especially good in the white finish, whether or not you have a James Bond fetish. We suspect this one will sell quickly, as the interior work, subtle color scheme, and super clean engine bay are traits we rarely see in these early Esprits. The Lotus Esprit-had a fiberglass body-designed by Giugiaro around the traditional Lotus backbone chassis. The sharply creased lines became Giugiaro’s trademark for many years, and were starkly handsome. The car was produced over four decades, having had several-evolutionary redesigns, and many engine developments from the original 140hp Lotus 907 four cylinder, to a 350hp twin-turbo V8.
This car is a S1 model, distinguished most readily by the Wolfrace alloy wheels. Evidence of Chapman’s parts bin raiding includes the taillights from Fiat, and a transaxle from Citroen. The seller offers two sets of carbs–US-spec Zenith-Stromberg, and UK-spec Dell’Ortos. It appears that the more powerful Dell’Ortos are installed.
The interior was re-upholstered in black alcantara instead of the tartan plaid that came originally. We like the subtle color, but it could use some leather or even vinyl accents to give some contrast. We don’t mind losing the tartan at all, and often want these interiors to be a bit more subdued,
