Presenting Lotus Esprit S1, Chassis 134H
Introducing a very special Esprit S1 to the collector community. The original of this car put a few thousand miles on it in the first few years of its life, and then instead of selling it like he normally would, grew attached to it and held on to it. Being a real estate developer, he had no shortage of climate controlled storage for the car. Away it went, under a cover, for years at a time. In June of 2008, with a long-expired registration, the car had only seen the light of day a few times in almost 30 years (only to be moved between storage facilities two times). The sentimental original owner was finally ready to let it go . . . to a good home. With only 4009 original miles and barely a wrench ever turned on this car, it is just as it left the Lotus factory in 1977. The original tires are fresh and soft. The orange "gelcoat" finish is as close to flawless as exists. The brown marcasite velvet interior has no fading. The fluorescent red seatbelt decals and gauge markings are saturated with their full color. The trim is unmarked. The car looks, feels, and smells as new. On top of all that, it is a very rare color in left-hand-drive; only four federal cars in the orange "gelcoat" finish, plus two "J" models for Europe (and another two orange federal cars in conventional paint finish). This is the best-preserved Esprit S1 I have ever seen. UPDATE: 134H now lives happily as part of a great collection of cars. It has been kept totally original, but received a thorough detailing and tune-up to make it look and run like the day it left the Lotus factory. It is absolutely the mintest and most original S1 I have ever seen or heard of. I was very happy to see 134H on display at the 2009 Celebration Exotic Car Festival, parked alongside of the best restored Esprit S1 in the world (the yellow car that was featured in Octane magazine). What a treat!

Description for Lotus Esprit 1977
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this attractive and desirable early Lotus Esprit. This car was just purchased from the state of Texas where it had been stored for the past few years. The car appears highly original with a nice repaint in it’s original color. It’s engine currently runs well but the car could use some easy mechanical recommissioning before it returns to the road. The bodywork on this car is in overall excellent original shape with great shutlines and nice fitting panels. The car was repainted at some point in it’s recent past. The paintwork shows lovely and glossy with barely a few chips or blemishes. It shows excellent and crisp, and would be perfect on a very nice everyday driver. The rear bumper on the car could use replacement or repair. The car’s interior looks 100% original and pretty untouched. The fabric has faded a bit in the US climate, and might be able to be improved by dyeing, if one was devoted to keeping the original trim. The wood steering wheel is a nice touch matching the original carpets. The car’s engine runs on a can of ether and a fresh battery, and sounds extremely robust and healthy (see video). A small recommissioning to the brake and clutch hydraulics and fuel system should have the car back on the road in no time. The engine currently fitted to the car we believe is from a Jensen Healey, but the original numbers matching long block that the car was born with is included with the sale of the car (see pics). The car’s underside looks quite tidy and clean overall. Included is also the original jack and handle in it’s factory bag, rare factory tool kit, engine area tonneau cover, Lotus parts book, workshop manual.Overall, a very attractive and presentable running early Esprit accompanied with it’s matching numbers engine. This rare car is a smart bet going forward with only 718 units produced for the world. Please look at all pictures and call or email with any questions. We will assist in shipping worldwide. The following prices do not include import taxes / fees, optional insurance, or additional fees charged by the export company. Shipping rates are $995 (small car) / $1,095 (mid size) / $1,195 (large) to the following ports: Bremerhaven DE, Southampton / Felixstowe UK, Antwerp BE, and Rotterdam NL. Shipping rate (small car) to Le Havre France is $1295This car is located in Southern California, 35 minutes (30 miles) from the Los Angeles Port of Long Beach. The description above is general in nature and not to be solely relied upon by buyer. Buyer to verify authenticity, matching numbers, condition, year, model, make, color, type, rarity or provenance and all other relevant information. This car is sold with a clear title and is available for inspection by appointment.KURT TANNER MOTORCARS909.241.1051 – CELL949.734.6904 – SHOP

Winning Bid USD $30,000
Auction Ended Monday, January 25 2021 at 9:05pm
This 1977 Lotus Esprit is a Series 1 example that was purchased by the seller as the reported second owner in Beverly Hills, California approximately 41 years ago and was relocated to Hawaii in 1987, where it has resided since. The car is finished in red and powered by a 1,973cc Lotus 907 DOHC inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes pop-up headlights, dual fuel fillers, 14″ Wolfrace alloy wheels, adjustable rear coilovers, bucket seats with tartan cloth inserts, and a Pioneer head unit. Service in 2020 consisted of rebuilding the power brake booster, replacing the battery, and performing an oil change. This Lotus Esprit S1 is now offered with partial service records, tool kit, and a clean Hawaii title in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in yellow, the car has been repainted its current shade of candy apple red with gold graphics. Features include pop-up headlights, dual fuel fillers, door-mounted side-view mirrors, and a hatchback with a flush glass window. The seller notes bubbling and flaws around the nose, and aging wrinkles on the US-spec impact bumpers is shown up close in the gallery below.
Factory 14″ Wolfrace wheels were recently fitted Federal tires sized 205/60 up front and 215/65 in the rear. The suspension features recently fitted adjustable rear coilovers, and braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard rotors and calipers at the rear. The seller states the power brake booster was recently rebuilt.
The cabin features green fabric fixed-back seats with red tartan cloth inserts, along with contrasting red carpets faded to orange and green trim on the dashboard and center console. Amenities include power windows, a wood shift knob, an aftermarket carbon shifter surround, and a Pioneer head unit that the seller states intermittently functions.
An aftermarket four-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Veglia instrumentation including an 8k-rpm tachometer, a 160-mph speedometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows just under 30k miles, approximately 12k of which were added by the seller, who notes that the speedometer reads fast.
The mid-mounted 1,973cc Lotus 907 inline-four is equipped with Zenith-Stromberg carburetors that the seller states have been rebuilt. A custom-fabricated radiator with four cooling fans have been added, along with dual updated fuse blocks and a fan override switch. Recent service consisted of fitting a new battery and an oil change.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. Additional photos of the underbody, suspension, and brakes are viewable in the gallery. An in-car driving video is presented below.

20-08-12 For Sale on Ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190714681409&viewitem=#v4-41
This Lotus Esprit is for parts or restoration. There is no motor or transmission. There is no indication accident damage, I purchased it to build a weekend track racer, well … it hasn’t happened yet so I’m going to have to let you have an opportunity.
The body is very straight, the chassis has no rust, this has been a California car and the chassis is very clean. There is no rack and pinion steering or front calipers, one track rod from the rear suspension is missing.
Rear calipers and mounting plates are present as are the carrier assemblies, axeles and drag links. I have the rear springs. The front windshield is cracked but all other glass is good, the front windshield is the same as the Delorean DMC-12 and is still available. The front suspension is the same as Opal Ascona (German GM), which looks remarkably like the Pontiac Fiero/T1000, I’m pretty sure the Fiero spindle assemblies will bolt right in and give you a modern 5 lug x 100mm choice of wheels, I also think the Fiero steering rack can be fitted with minimal modification. The rear hatch is from an'87 esprit. The original radiator and fans are in place. I have the console cover but no dash parts. This would be a nice rocket with a Northstar V8 or 3800SC V6 conversion, check out some similar conversions, just Google "Northstar Fiero".
Here is some info about the Esprit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Esprit
You can also Google to get more.
I can assist with shipping, the trailer it is sitting on is not included in this auction, if you want the trailer we can talk about it for a reasonable price.
I never titled this car, it was not purchased to put back on the road. I have a signed pink slip somewhere, otherwise it will be sold with a bill of sale, you can run the serial number to be sure it’s not stolen, I know it’s legal, here is the serial number : 77020142H . You can do a lien sale in Calif to get a new pink, most states have a similar system.
Please feel free to ask questions, if you need additional pictures just send a message of what you need.
Thanks for looking, happy bidding.
