Although I'm not thinking of changing my S3 Esprit I sometimes browse the net looking at what is available, that sort of thing, sometimes I look out for Esprits as well!
Last night I spotted an ad for an 1978 Esprit S1 on eBay, hmm I think, I used to have one of those in 1980 lets check it out, and blow me it turns out it was my former car!
It was perhaps a little bit like meeting an ex girlfriend after may years apart, checking out the bodywork looking for the wrinkles and sags, and generally seeing how it's lasted over the years.
Short answer would seem that it's not done that badly and thankfully, (and as far as I could tell) nobody had tried to fit one of those "Halfords Type" sunroofs on it. However it's not been immune to the odd bit of aftermark go faster decoration as it now sports some odd blue pin stripes, a bendy rubber aerial and a very non standard Esprit logo by the fuel fillers. Inside its the same dark green marcasite with black inserts with only some strange bit of instrumentation ( maybe a rev counter???) added by a PO, presumably because the Veglia one has died at some point.
Mark at Stocks has it for sale and it appears to need some time spend to get it running again.
Now if I hadn't had a sit in Sparky's GT£ (did you see what I did there) last weekend I might be tempted but it would be good to see it restored to it's former glory
If anyone ends up taking it on I'd love to keep in touch with the new owner
